At times, due to market constraints caused by higher costs from raw material suppliers, shortages, tariffs, labor and other continued cost factors, vendors will notify us of supply chain disruptions and implementation of price adjustments. When these notifications occur, we seek to quickly make you aware of the changes.  We understand you have ongoing jobs and contractual obligations.  We share in the concerns of our customers regarding the financial impacts related to these changes and we wish to work closely with you to mitigate the effects of market price fluctuations.

Commodities Report

Commodity Insights – December 2024 (Source: Atkore – Electrical Products Commodity Update)

Summary
• All Metal and PVC resin prices were down in November compared to the prior month while HDPE resin was unchanged from prior month.
• After twenty months of declines, architecture firm billings were flat in October. In addition, inquiries into new projects increased in October to the highest level in six months.
• The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI), which tracks nonresidential building projects entering the planning phase, dropped 5% in October as data center planning normalized.
• Total construction spend rose 0.4% during October, the result of a broad -based upturn in the residential category, as single-family, multifamily and home improvement outlays all picked up solidly.
• Total nonresidential spending pulled back during October, driven by weakness in commercial buildings. While manufacturing construction appears to have crested, data center spend continue to grow.
• Nonresidential construction employment increased by 9.9k positions in November with growth in nonresidential specialty trades with heavy and civil engineering offsetting a modest decline in nonresidential building.

Steel Update
• Hot Rolled & Cold Rolled steel down month-over-month.
• Overall steel coil market is soft, and mills are aligning production with demand.
• Maintenance schedules are beginning and will take steel mill capacity offline.
• 25% tariff implemented on Mexico steel products that do not use “melted and poured” Mexico-made steel.

PVC Resin Update
• Domestic prices decreased 1% and volume increased 3%.
• Export pricing decreased 1% and volume decreased 6%.
• Domestic producers held operating rates to 77% of capacity – 0% change from prior month.
• Days of supply at 19 – increase of 1 day from prior month.

Copper Update
• November Comex averaged $4.17 – down 5% from October and up 12% over last November.
• The year-to-date average now stands at $4.23.
• Copper held in Comex warehouses rose to 82,278metric tons.
• Total inventories of copper held in Comex, LME, and Shanghai decreased from 505,352 metric tons in October to 462,053 metric tons in November.

Aluminum Update
• Monthly LME aluminum prices decreased roughly 1% in November.
• The LME year-to-date average now stands at $1.09.
• Aluminum inventories decreased 38% – from 1,124,700 metric tons in May to 695,975 metric tons in November.

HDPE Resin Update
• HDPE domestic resin prices settled flat for November.
• Domestic demand decreased 2% month-over-month and Volume increased 7%.
• Operating rates increased to 90% of capacity – 1% increase month-over-month.
• Days of supply remained flat at 48 days month-over-month.

Freight Update
• Marketing freight cost/lb. decreased 10% in the last 12 months due to decreases in the spot market and load-to-truck ratio.
• Diesel fuel decreased 16% since January 2024.
• Flatbed load-to-truck ratio settled around 15/1.

The new standard represents a major change in the life safety industry. In addition to existing wood and paper tests, the significantly revised UL standard incorporates three new tests: cooking nuisance alarms, smoldering, and flaming polyerethane.
